The hand speaks powerfully in silence: the holding hands of lovers, the comforting hand on the shoulder of the grieving, the raised hands of prisoners, the “signing” of the deaf, the hands gestures of tribal people, the hand signals of police. Hands are our language and a substitute for voice. Each silhouette is a hand raised in support for women and gender equity. They are also answering the question “How would you improve gender equity in the workplace?”
In this collaborative project, our hands are conveying a message that is irrespective of gender, race, religion, faith, culture, social classes, sexuality orientation, or age. They are united in diversity and in embracing positive change.
Artwork commissioned by ISS Facility Services, for International Women’s Day and exhibited in three offices around the UK.
